Intruder Alarms

Alarm Systems

A good alarm system detects intruders early, rarely cries wolf and is connected to people who will respond. Vigilant CQ Security designs and supplies alarm systems for homes, complexes and businesses after looking at the property, and links them to monitoring and armed response so every activation is acted on.

  • Designed after a site visit
  • Indoor and perimeter detection
  • Panic options built in
  • Linked to armed response
Alarm Systems

Start with the property, not the product

Two houses on the same street can need very different alarms. One has a garden that backs onto open veld; the other has a garden flat and three dogs. Before recommending anything, we walk the property and ask how it is lived in or worked in: who is there and when, where valuables are kept, which areas pets use, and whether you want the outside protected while you are home at night.

That conversation shapes the zones, the type of detectors and the arming options. It is the same security by design approach we use for guarding, applied to electronic security.

What a system can include

  • Control panel and keypad with separate arming options, for example perimeter only at night and full arming when away
  • Indoor detectors covering passages, living areas and entry points
  • Outdoor detection for gardens, driveways and yards, so that intruders are picked up before they reach the building
  • Door and window contacts on high-risk openings
  • Panic buttons, fixed or portable, linked to the control room — see panic buttons and emergency alerts
  • Sirens and backup power so the system keeps working during load shedding and power failures
  • Communication to the control room for monitoring and dispatch

Equipment brands and detector choices are confirmed in your quote after the site visit.

Homes, complexes and business premises

Homes

Residential systems focus on early warning and safe night-time arming, with panic options in bedrooms and pet-tolerant detection where needed.

Complexes and estates

Individual unit alarms can be combined with perimeter detection and electric fencing on boundary walls.

Shops, offices and warehouses

Business systems cover after-hours intrusion, stockrooms and server rooms, with user codes for staff so you can see who armed and disarmed the premises.

Fewer false alarms, more trust in the system

An alarm that goes off for no reason soon gets ignored. Good design reduces false alarms: correct detector placement, sensible zone layouts, pet-tolerant detectors where animals roam, and backup batteries that are kept healthy. Once the system is live, activation records from our control room help pinpoint a faulty sensor quickly.

We also show every user how to arm, disarm and use the panic options, because many false alarms come from simple confusion at the keypad.

Installation, connection and support

After you accept the written quote, installation is scheduled with you. Once installed, the system is tested, connected to monitoring and armed response if you choose it, and handed over with user codes and instructions. Maintenance and fault call-outs are handled as set out in your agreement. If you already have a system, we can assess whether it is worth upgrading rather than replacing.

Frequently asked questions

Will my alarm work during load shedding?

Systems are installed with backup batteries so that they keep working during power cuts. Battery life depends on the system and how long the power is off. We size the backup to the system and advise on maintaining it.

Can I have an alarm that works with dogs on the property?

Yes. Pet-tolerant detectors and careful zone design reduce false alarms from pets. We ask about your animals during the site visit and design around where they move, especially for outdoor detection.

Can you upgrade my existing alarm instead of replacing it?

Often, yes. We assess the panel, detectors and communication. If the core equipment is sound, adding zones, outdoor detection or panic options may be enough. If not, we explain why a replacement makes more sense.

Do I have to sign up for armed response?

No, but an alarm that nobody responds to offers limited protection. Most clients connect their system to monitoring and armed response. We will quote on both so you can decide.

How long does installation take?

It depends on the size of the property and the system. A typical home installation is usually completed in a short visit, while larger sites take longer. The timing is confirmed in your quote.
