Corporate Protection
Executive Protection
Senior people are targets for crime because of what they control and where they go. Vigilant CQ Security provides executive protection for directors, senior managers and visiting executives, combining travel security, secure transport and residence protection into one plan that fits around a demanding business schedule.
- Built around business schedules
- Travel and transport security
- Residence and office links
- Single point of contact

Why companies invest in executive protection
Executives face risks that ordinary staff do not: hijacking and follow-home robberies because they drive visible vehicles, kidnapping or extortion attempts because of their role, and confrontations during labour disputes, restructurings or controversial decisions. Visiting executives unfamiliar with Johannesburg roads and neighbourhoods face additional exposure.
Protecting key people is also about business continuity. A company that loses access to its leadership, even briefly, can lose much more than the cost of a protection programme.
Elements of an executive protection programme
| Element | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Travel security | Airport meet-and-greet, travel between offices, sites and hotels |
| Secure transport | Trained drivers and planned routes with alternatives |
| Close protection | Protection officers at meetings, site visits and functions |
| Residence security | Guarding, alarms, armed response and perimeter checks at home |
| Contingency planning | What happens if a route is blocked, an incident occurs or plans change |
Not every executive needs every element. The programme is assembled from what the risk assessment shows.
Working with the business, not around it
Executive protection succeeds when it is coordinated with the people who run the executive's day: personal assistants, travel coordinators, facilities managers and, where relevant, the company's own security function. We agree a single point of contact, how schedules are shared and how changes are communicated, so protection keeps pace with the diary.
Officers are selected to fit the corporate setting: well-presented, discreet in meetings and comfortable working with senior people. All are PSIRA-registered and screened.
Protection during periods of elevated risk
Some companies need protection only at certain times: during strike action, retrenchments or disciplinary processes, after specific threats, or while hosting visiting directors and investors. We can set up a temporary programme for these periods and wind it down when the risk passes. Where threats come from inside the business, our private investigations team can help establish the facts lawfully.
How we engage
We start with a confidential meeting with the company's decision-maker to understand the executive's role, profile, movements and any known threats. A written proposal follows, setting out the elements recommended, officer numbers, hours and reporting. Programmes can be ongoing or for a defined period, and are reviewed as circumstances change. For individuals and families outside a corporate context, see VIP protection and bodyguards.

Frequently asked questions
How is executive protection different from VIP protection?
Executive protection is usually arranged by a company for its leaders and built around their business schedule, offices and travel. VIP protection is broader and covers public figures, families and private individuals. The skills overlap, but the coordination is different.
Can you protect visiting executives from overseas?
Yes. We can meet visitors on arrival, provide transport and protection between hotels, offices and sites, and brief them on sensible precautions during their stay, after assessing the itinerary.
Do executives need armed protection?
It depends on the assessment. Many executives are well served by trained drivers and discreet unarmed officers. Armed protection is recommended where the threat level justifies it, and we explain why.
Can protection be arranged during a strike or restructuring?
Yes. Temporary programmes are common during labour disputes, retrenchments or after threats. We set them up for the period of elevated risk and review them regularly.
