Perimeter Protection
Electric Fencing
The safest place to stop an intruder is at your boundary, before they reach a door or window. Vigilant CQ Security installs and maintains electric fencing for homes, complexes and business premises, linked to your alarm and armed response so that a cut or tampered fence raises the alarm.
- Boundary-first protection
- Linked to alarm and response
- Installed to SA regulations
- Maintenance and repairs

Why protect the perimeter
An intruder who has to climb an electrified fence is delayed, deterred and detected at the same moment. That buys time for armed response or on-site officers to act, and keeps the problem away from the people inside.
Electric fencing suits:
- Freestanding homes and garden walls
- Townhouse complexes and estates with long boundary walls
- Industrial yards, warehouses and storage sites
- Commercial premises backing onto open land or service lanes
Wall-top, freestanding and retrofits
Wall-top fencing
Brackets mounted on an existing wall carry electrified strands above it. This is the most common option for homes and complexes.
Freestanding fencing
Where there is no wall, or an existing palisade or mesh fence needs strengthening, a freestanding electric fence can be installed along the line.
Upgrades and repairs
Many properties have old fences with sagging strands, missing insulators or energisers that no longer report faults. We assess these and quote on repairs, re-stringing or replacement.
The number of strands, height and layout for your property are confirmed in the quote.
Installed safely and to regulations
Electric fences in South Africa must meet safety requirements, including approved energisers, correct earthing, warning signs at set intervals and safe clearances from public areas. A compliant installation is also typically required for an electric fence certificate when a property is sold.
We install with those requirements in mind and can advise if an existing fence is likely to need work before it can be certified. Exact compliance work is confirmed after we inspect the site.
Linking the fence to your alarm
A fence that simply shocks is only half the job. Modern energisers detect when strands are cut, shorted or earthed and can send that alert to your alarm system and our monitoring and control room. That way, tampering results in a response, not just a beeping box in the garage.
Fencing works well alongside outdoor alarm detection and CCTV on the boundary, so that you can see as well as detect what is happening.
Keeping the fence working
Vegetation, weather and loose strands are the main causes of fence faults and false alerts. Regular checks keep strands tight, insulators intact and growth cut back. Maintenance visits and fault call-outs are arranged as set out in your agreement, and we explain to you what you can safely check yourself.

Frequently asked questions
Is electric fencing legal on a residential wall?
Yes, provided it is installed to the applicable safety requirements, including approved energisers, warning signs and correct placement. We install with these requirements in mind and can check whether an existing fence is likely to need work.
Do I need an electric fence certificate?
A certificate is typically needed when a property with an electric fence is sold or when a new fence is installed. We can advise whether your fence is likely to qualify and what may need fixing first.
Will the fence work during load shedding?
Energisers are fitted with backup batteries so that the fence keeps working during power cuts for a period that depends on the system. We advise on battery sizing and replacement as part of maintenance.
Can the fence alert armed response?
Yes. When the energiser is linked to your alarm and our control room, a cut or tampered fence triggers an alert and can lead to an officer being dispatched, as set out in your agreement.
