Meet Our Team

The people behind the uniform

Security is a people business. Cameras, alarms and vehicles matter, but what keeps a home, an estate or a warehouse safe at three in the morning is a trained person who is alert, knows the site and knows exactly what to do when something feels wrong. That is why we put so much of our effort into the team you see on this page.

Vigilant CQ Security is a privately owned South African security company, registered with PSIRA, the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority. Every officer we deploy is PSIRA-registered at the grade the post requires, screened before they join us and supervised once they are on site. Our name says what we expect from every member of the team: to keep careful watch for danger, and to act on it calmly and lawfully.

This page introduces the roles that work together on your site — from the management team that plans your security, to the supervisors who check on every shift, to the officers, response teams and specialists who do the work. If you would like to meet the people who will look after your site before you sign anything, ask us. We are happy to arrange it.

Management: planning security around your site

Management and operations with the team and fleet.

Every client relationship starts with management. Before we quote, a member of the management team visits your site or meets you to understand the property, the people who use it, the hours that matter and the risks you are worried about. We call this approach security by design: the plan is built around your site, not copied from a template.

Management is responsible for the written proposal you receive, for choosing the right mix of guarding, patrols, armed response and electronic security, and for putting the right people on your contract. They stay involved after deployment too. Clients deal with real people they can reach, not a call centre, and problems are escalated to someone who can make a decision.

We believe security should be high quality and fairly priced. Management keeps that balance by recommending only what your risk actually requires, explaining the trade-offs in plain language and reviewing the arrangement with you as your needs change.

Supervisors: the link between your site and our office

Supervisors and officers ready for deployment.

A guard on a post is only as good as the supervision behind them. Our supervisors visit sites during day and night shifts, check that officers are alert, correctly equipped and following the site instructions, and make sure occurrence books and reports are kept properly.

Supervisors are also the first point of contact when something changes. If you need an extra officer for an event, a post moved because of building work, or a concern about conduct addressed, the supervisor arranges it and reports back. Where an officer needs relief, retraining or replacement, the supervisor makes sure the post is never left uncovered.

For contracts with several posts or sites, supervisors also coordinate shift handovers and help prepare the regular reports clients receive, so you always know what happened on your property and what was done about it.

Security officers: armed and unarmed

Uniformed officers on a corporate site.

Our officers are the face of Vigilant CQ on your site. Depending on your needs they work as static officers at gates, receptions and access points, as foot or vehicle patrols, or as armed officers where the risk assessment shows a firearm is justified. Unarmed officers handle the large majority of posts, controlling access, welcoming visitors, monitoring cameras and reporting anything unusual.

We match the officer to the post. A corporate reception needs someone polished and service-minded; a construction site at night needs someone confident and observant; a retail floor needs someone who can spot shrinkage without confronting innocent shoppers. PSIRA grades help us place people correctly, and our PSIRA grades guide explains what each grade means.

All officers work under clear site instructions, wear the Vigilant CQ uniform and identification, and are expected to treat residents, staff, visitors and the public with respect. We operate on zero tolerance for unethical conduct.

Armed response and monitoring

Response officers coordinate by radio.

When an alarm or panic button is activated, the people who respond matter as much as the technology that raised the signal. Our armed reaction officers are trained to approach incidents safely, assess what is happening and act within the law, while keeping our monitoring team and the client informed.

The monitoring team receives alarm and panic signals, verifies them where possible and coordinates the response. They are also the people who log events, contact keyholders and record what was found, so there is a clear trail if you need it for insurance or follow-up. Response coverage depends on your area and is confirmed after we assess your site — see alarm monitoring for how it works.

Close protection, events and investigations

Some work needs specialists. Our close protection officers provide discreet VIP protection and executive protection for business people, officials, public figures and families, planning routes and venues in advance and staying low-key unless a situation demands otherwise. For events, the team scales up with access control, crowd awareness and parking support.

Our investigations team handles private investigations, background checks, tracing and loss control. They work confidentially and strictly within South African law, including POPIA, gathering facts and evidence that employers, landlords and attorneys can rely on. Where covert observation is needed, plain-clothes officers support the investigation lawfully and ethically.

How we build and look after the team

Day and night shifts are planned and supervised.

Good security officers are not found by chance. Applicants are screened before they join us, including identity, PSIRA registration and grade, and reference checks, and we look for the right attitude as much as experience. New team members are briefed on our standards and on the specific instructions for the site they are assigned to.

We support community skills development because we believe security work should open doors, not close them. A well-trained officer who is treated with respect is more likely to stay, to know your site well and to notice when something is out of place — which is exactly what you are paying for.

  • Screened: identity, PSIRA registration and references checked before deployment.
  • Briefed: every officer receives clear site instructions and reporting procedures.
  • Supervised: regular supervisor visits on day and night shifts.
  • Accountable: occurrence books, incident reports and a management team you can reach.

What every team member stands for

Whatever their role, everyone at Vigilant CQ works to the same values. Respect comes first: for clients, for the public and for each other. It shapes how officers speak to visitors at a gate, how investigators treat the people they interview and how management handles a complaint.

Vigilance is the second. It means paying attention when nothing seems to be happening, because that is when most problems begin, and reporting small things before they become big ones.

Integrity is the third. Our officers are trusted with access to homes, offices, stock and people. We expect honesty in every report and every interaction, and we act quickly when that trust is broken. Together these values are why our motto is zero tolerance on crime — and zero tolerance for anything that would let our clients down.

Meet the team on your site

Officers briefed and ready for the shift.

Choosing a security company means trusting people with your property and, often, your family or staff. We would rather you meet us properly than choose us from a brochure. Request a site assessment and a member of management will walk the property with you, explain how we would staff it and introduce the supervisor responsible for your area.

Ready to talk? Request a quote or visit our contact page, and tell us about your site, the hours you need covered and any concerns. We will come back to you with a written proposal.

Frequently asked questions

Can I meet the officers before they start on my site?

Yes. During the site assessment we can introduce the supervisor for your area, and before deployment we can arrange for you to meet the officers assigned to your contract so you know who will be on your property.

Are all your security officers PSIRA-registered?

Yes. Every officer we deploy is registered with PSIRA at the grade the post requires. You are welcome to verify an officer’s registration, and we explain the grades in our PSIRA guide.

What happens if I am unhappy with an officer?

Tell us. The supervisor or a member of management will address it promptly — through retraining, a change of post or replacement — and make sure your site is never left without cover while it is resolved.

Do the same officers stay on my site?

Wherever possible we keep a consistent team on each contract, because officers who know your site, your people and your routines notice more. Relief officers are briefed on the same site instructions.
