Events & Functions
Event Security
Whether it is a wedding for 120 or a concert for thousands, the security job is the same at heart: let the right people in, keep everyone safe and deal with problems before they spoil the event. Vigilant CQ Security plans and staffs security for private, corporate and public events across Johannesburg.
- Planned with the organiser
- Access and guest-list control
- Crowd and parking management
- Calm, presentable officers

Events we cover
Private parties and celebrations
Birthdays, milestone parties and family gatherings at homes or hired venues, where hosts want gate control, protection of parked cars and someone to handle uninvited guests.
Weddings
Discreet officers who manage the gate, the guest list, gifts and parking, without looking out of place in the photos.
Corporate events
Conferences, product launches, year-end functions and exhibitions, with registration support, protection of equipment and attention to VIP guests.
Concerts and public events
Larger crowds that need entrance searches by consent, crowd management, barrier and stage areas and coordination with the venue and authorities.
What event security can include
- Access control at gates and doors: tickets, guest lists, wristbands and accreditation
- Consent-based bag checks where the event's conditions of entry provide for them
- Crowd management at entrances, bars, stages and exits
- Parking assistance to direct vehicles, keep emergency routes clear and watch over parked cars
- Protection of property such as gifts, equipment, stock and back-of-house areas
- Incident handling: managing intoxicated or aggressive guests, lost property and first contact with emergency services
Where a guest of honour or performer needs personal protection, we add close protection to the plan.
Planning with the organiser
Good event security is decided weeks before the day. We meet the organiser or venue manager to understand the guest numbers and profile, the venue layout, entrances and parking, alcohol service, timing and any known concerns. Where possible we visit the venue.
From there we propose the number of officers, their positions, the briefing, the radio or communication plan and who has the final say on refusing entry. The plan fits in with the venue's own security, the event's emergency procedures and any requirements from the local authorities for public events.
Officers and conduct
Event officers are PSIRA-registered and screened, and are briefed on the event, the dress code and how to handle guests. We place emphasis on calm communication: most problems at events are solved by talking, not force. A supervisor on site manages the team and is your point of contact on the day.
After the event
We help with the last part that is often overlooked: managing departures safely, clearing the venue and protecting equipment until it is collected. Any incidents are recorded and reported to you afterwards. For multi-day exhibitions or festivals, overnight static guarding can be arranged between event days, and valuables in transit can travel with a secure escort.

Frequently asked questions
How many security officers do I need for my event?
It depends on guest numbers, the venue layout, how many entrances there are, whether alcohol is served and the profile of the guests. We work it out with you during planning rather than applying a fixed ratio.
Can officers check guests' bags?
Yes, where the conditions of entry say so and the guest consents. Guests who decline can be refused entry by the organiser. Officers do not force searches and handle refusals politely.
Will security officers look out of place at a wedding?
We brief officers on the dress code and the atmosphere you want. Their job is to be discreet and courteous, managing the gate and parking without intruding on your celebration.
How far ahead should I book event security?
As early as possible, especially for large events and busy periods such as December. Early booking gives time to plan properly and visit the venue.
Do you work alongside the venue's own security?
Yes. Many venues have their own staff or rules. We coordinate with them so that responsibilities are clear and there are no gaps on the day.
