Static guarding
Static Security Officers
Sometimes alarms and response vehicles are not enough and you need someone physically present on the property. A static security officer stays at a fixed post on your home or business site for the whole shift, watching, controlling access and acting immediately if something goes wrong.
- Officer on site all shift
- Homes and business premises
- Short-term or ongoing
- Supervised and reported

Why a static officer
Electronic security tells you something has happened; a static officer can stop it from happening. Having a trained person on site changes the calculation for criminals, who prefer properties where they will not be seen. Static officers are especially valuable where:
- The property has been targeted before, or neighbours have been hit recently
- Family members are often home alone, or the owners travel frequently
- A business holds stock, equipment or vehicles overnight
- Building work, a broken wall or a failed gate has left the perimeter exposed
- Visitors, deliveries or contractors need to be managed at the gate
Static officers at private homes
For residential clients, the officer is usually posted at the gate or a guardhouse, sometimes with a patrol route around the garden and perimeter. Duties include controlling who enters, receiving deliveries, watching the street, checking that gates and doors are closed and alerting the household and armed response if anything looks wrong. Night shifts are the most common request, but day cover is useful for households with domestic staff, contractors or children coming and going. Officers respect the family's privacy and work strictly to the instructions you set. See also residential security.
Static officers at business sites
At business premises, static officers secure the main access point, monitor the yard or building, record vehicle and visitor movements and check that the site is locked up properly at close of business. After hours, they protect stock, equipment and vehicles and respond to alarms. On larger sites, a static post at the gate is often combined with patrols of the wider property, or with CCTV so the officer can see more of the site from one position.
Cover after a break-in
A burglary often leaves a property more vulnerable than before: broken locks, damaged windows, and criminals who know there are items still left behind. On request and subject to availability, a static officer can remain at the property after an incident until locksmiths and repairs have been completed and you feel secure again. This is arranged as short-term cover and confirmed when you contact us.
Officers, supervision and contracts
Static officers are PSIRA-registered, screened before placement and briefed on your site instructions. Supervisors check posts and review occurrence books, and you have a manager to contact. Cover can be arranged for single shifts, short periods or ongoing contracts, and officers can be armed or unarmed depending on the risk. Read more about our wider guarding services.

Frequently asked questions
Where does the officer stay during the shift?
At a fixed post agreed with you, usually the gate, a guardhouse or the main entrance, with a defined patrol route if required. A guardhouse or sheltered position with lighting and access to ablutions should be available; we discuss this during the assessment.
Can I have a static officer for one night only?
Short-term cover, including single shifts after a break-in or during a special occasion, can often be arranged depending on availability. Contact us as early as possible so we can confirm an officer.
Will the officer enter my house?
Only if your site instructions allow it, for example in an emergency. Residential officers normally work outside the home, respecting the family's privacy, and access to the house is set strictly by you.
Is a static officer better than armed response?
They do different jobs. Armed response reacts after an alarm is triggered; a static officer is present before anything happens. Many homes and businesses use both, with the officer able to call armed response for backup.
