Panic Facilities

Panic Buttons & Emergency Alerts

Some emergencies leave no time to make a phone call. A panic button lets you or your staff call for help silently, with one press. Vigilant CQ Security supplies fixed and portable panic facilities for homes and businesses, linked to our monitoring and control room and to armed response.

  • Silent one-press alerts
  • Fixed and portable options
  • Linked to armed response
  • Treated as urgent
Panic Buttons & Emergency Alerts

When a panic button makes the difference

Panic buttons are designed for moments when you cannot safely reach for a phone or speak openly: an intruder already inside the house, a confrontation at a shop till, an aggressive visitor at a reception desk, or someone trying to force their way in behind you at the gate.

Because a panic signal means a person may be in danger, our control room treats it as urgent and dispatches armed response without waiting to verify it by phone first.

Panic options we supply

  • Fixed panic buttons mounted discreetly in bedrooms, at tills, under reception desks or in offices
  • Portable panic remotes that can be carried around the house, garden or premises within range of the alarm
  • Keypad panic functions built into your alarm keypad
  • Silent or audible alerts, depending on whether a siren would help or put people at greater risk

The right combination depends on how your property is laid out and who uses it. We confirm placement and range during the site visit.

For homes and for businesses

At home

Families usually want a panic button next to the bed and a portable remote for the garden or the gate. Elderly relatives living alone or in a garden cottage benefit from a portable option they can keep close.

At work

Shops, pharmacies, offices and reception areas use fixed buttons where staff deal with the public or handle cash and stock. Staff need to know where the buttons are and when to use them; we can walk them through it at handover.

Testing, training and false activations

A panic button that has not been tested may fail when it matters. We test each button and remote with the control room at installation, and we recommend periodic test activations arranged with us in advance so they are not mistaken for real emergencies.

Accidental presses happen, especially with portable remotes. If one occurs, contact the control room immediately using the details in your agreement and give your password. Everyone who carries a remote should know how to do this.

Getting set up

Panic facilities work through your alarm system and monitoring. If you already have a compatible alarm, adding panic buttons is usually straightforward. If not, we can quote on a system that includes them. Panic monitoring and response form part of your ongoing armed response agreement.

Frequently asked questions

Will the control room call me before sending help?

A panic signal is treated as urgent because someone may be in danger, so armed response is dispatched without waiting for a verification call. The control room may still try to contact you, but the response does not depend on it.

Should my panic button set off the siren?

Not always. In a hold-up or with an intruder in the room, a silent alert may be safer. In other situations a siren helps scare people off. We discuss this with you and set it up to suit your circumstances.

How far does a portable panic remote work?

Range depends on the equipment, walls and layout of the property. We test the range during installation and advise where the remote will and will not reliably reach.

What should I do if I press it by accident?

Contact the control room straight away using the details in your agreement and give your password, so that they can confirm you are safe. If they cannot reach you, an officer may still attend to check.
