Camera Systems
CCTV Installation & Monitoring
Cameras are only useful if they point at the right places, record clearly and lead to action. Vigilant CQ Security plans and installs CCTV for homes, complexes and businesses, and can link cameras to guarding and armed response so that what you see on screen gets a real-world response.
- Camera plan after site survey
- Recording and remote viewing
- Works alongside guards
- POPIA-aware placement

Decide what each camera is for
The most common CCTV mistake is buying a bundle of cameras and spreading them around the building. Each camera should have a job. Some need to identify a face or a number plate at a gate; others only need to show movement across a yard; others are there to discourage theft at a till or loading bay.
During the site survey we agree those jobs with you, then choose camera types, positions and lighting to match. It is a much better basis for a quote than a camera count.
System options
- Fixed and wide-angle cameras for entrances, parking and open areas
- Cameras suited to low light for perimeters and yards after dark
- Recorders and storage sized for the number of cameras and how long footage must be kept
- Remote viewing on your phone or computer, with user access you control
- Gatehouse or reception screens so on-site officers can watch key areas
- Backup power for recorders and critical cameras
Brands, resolutions and storage periods are confirmed in the quote after the survey.
Turning footage into action
Recorded footage is valuable after an incident; live attention is what helps during one. Depending on your site, cameras can support:
- On-site officers at a gatehouse or reception desk watching key areas
- Alarm integration, where camera views help verify an alarm activation
- Armed response dispatched when an event is confirmed
- Investigations, where footage supports an internal enquiry or a police case
The level of monitoring that is realistic for your site is discussed and confirmed on assessment.
Privacy, signage and footage handling
CCTV captures personal information, so it must be used responsibly. We position cameras to cover your property, not neighbours' windows or private areas such as bathrooms and change rooms. We recommend clear signage that CCTV is in operation, and we advise on who in your organisation should have access to footage and how long it is kept, in line with POPIA.
When footage is needed for an incident, it should be exported promptly and stored securely so that it remains usable as evidence.
Installation and maintenance
Once the quote is accepted, installation is scheduled to limit disruption to your home or business. Cameras are aligned, recording is tested and you are shown how to view and export footage. Lenses, power supplies and storage need periodic checks; maintenance is arranged as set out in your agreement. We can also assess an existing system and recommend whether to repair, extend or replace it.

Frequently asked questions
How many cameras do I need?
That depends on what you want to see and identify, not on the size of the property alone. We work out the positions during the site survey and only quote for cameras that have a clear purpose.
Can I view my cameras on my phone?
Yes, remote viewing can be set up for systems that support it. You control who has access, and we recommend strong passwords and limiting access to people who genuinely need it.
How long is footage kept?
It depends on the recorder storage, the number of cameras and the recording settings. We agree a retention period with you and size the storage to suit. Footage of incidents should be exported and kept separately.
Will CCTV stop crime on my property?
Visible cameras discourage some offenders and help identify others, but no camera prevents every incident. CCTV works best combined with physical security, alarms and people who respond, which is why we design it as part of a wider plan.
Can you work on a system someone else installed?
Yes. We can assess an existing system, fix or realign cameras, add coverage or recommend replacement if the equipment is outdated.
